Pattaya Travel Guide 2026: Where to Stay, When to Go & What to Eat
By Niphon Srisawat · Updated September 1, 2026 · 13 min read
Salt air, slow beach mornings, and a city that makes more sense once you know which streets to use.
Quick facts
- Currency: Thai baht (฿ / THB). On 1 September 2026, the mid-market reference was about US$1 = ฿33.22, so ฿1,000 is roughly US$30.10. Bank-card, ATM and cash-exchange rates will differ. pluang
- Airport: Most international visitors arrive through Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), then continue by road to Pattaya in around 1.5–2 hours, depending on traffic. thaiadvice
- Closer airport: U-Tapao–Rayong–Pattaya International Airport (UTP) is nearer, though its route network is much smaller and schedules can shift. Check current flights before booking. [UNCERTAIN]
- Time zone: Indochina Time, UTC+7, with no daylight-saving time.
- Language: Thai is the main language. English is routine at hotels, malls, major attractions and tourist restaurants, but less reliable in local transport and small family-run businesses. Keep your hotel address saved in Thai.
- Entry: Thailand’s TDAC digital arrival form is mandatory for foreign arrivals. Visitors from the US, UK, Australia, Japan and many EU countries were listed for up to 30 days of visa-exempt entry from September 2026; this is visa exemption, not Visa on Arrival. Recheck requirements with an official Thai consular source before flying. visitthailandtoday nationthailand
- Useful daily budget: Plan around ฿3,500–6,000 per person / US$105–181 for a mid-range day with a decent room, three meals and local transport. This is a practical planning range, not a fixed city price. [UNCERTAIN]
When to go
Pattaya stays hot throughout the year. The choice is less about finding “winter” and more about deciding between reliable dry weather and lower room rates. November through February is the easiest period for beach days, Koh Larn ferries and long walks along Beach Road. June through October is wetter, cheaper, and better suited to travellers who do not mind arranging their day around rain radar.

January is dry and warm, averaging a 31.0°C high, 22.0°C low and about 28 mm of rain. It is peak season, especially around New Year, so beachfront hotels and flights tend to cost more. February remains dry at about 31.4°C / 23.7°C with 42 mm of rain; it is one of the cleanest months for a Koh Larn day. weatherjourney
March gets hotter, with an average high of 32.1°C and around 66 mm of rain. It is often a better-value shoulder-season choice than January or February, provided you do temple visits and viewpoint walks early. April is hotter again, around 32.8°C / 26.3°C, with roughly 93 mm of rain. Songkran falls on 13–15 April 2026 and 13–15 April 2027; expect higher demand around the holiday and check Pattaya-specific water-festival arrangements close to the date. weatherjourney
May begins the wet-season shift. Average rain rises to roughly 166 mm, followed by around 150 mm in June, 158 mm in July and 161 mm in August. Rain often arrives as a heavy afternoon burst rather than a full washed-out day, which means a morning ferry, museum or beach session can still work well. Hotel discounts become easier to find in this period. weatherjourney gotopattaya
September is one of the wettest months, with about 250 mm of rain and an average temperature around 30.7°C / 25.7°C. October remains wet, at approximately 224.5 mm, though conditions may begin easing later in the month. These are the months to build slack into island plans and avoid booking a tightly timed beach itinerary. weatherjourney realty-51
November is the turn: rainfall drops to around 57 mm and hotel demand begins climbing. Pattaya International Fireworks Festival takes place on 27–28 November 2026, with free public viewing along Pattaya Beach. December is the driest month in the research, with about 12 mm of rain, and one of the most expensive periods for hotels. realty-51 pattayaland weatherjourney
Pattaya is not in northern Thailand’s main burning-season zone, but Chonburi can still have poor PM2.5 days from haze, traffic, local burning and weather conditions. Check live air quality before a long outdoor day, especially if you have asthma or respiratory issues. iqair

Where to stay
Central Pattaya: Beach Road and Second Road
This is Pattaya at its most convenient: the beach on one side, food, malls and songthaew routes on the other. You stay here when you want to walk out for breakfast, catch a baht bus without planning, and be close to Bali Hai Pier for Koh Larn.
It works well for first visits, short breaks and travellers who would rather not rent a motorbike. The trade-off is noise, traffic and a busier late-night atmosphere, especially around Walking Street and central Beach Road.
Typical mid-range rates run ฿1,800–4,500 per night / US$54–135. A-One The Royal Cruise Hotel is often around ฿2,000–4,500 / US$60–135, while Holiday Inn Pattaya is usually a more expensive option at approximately ฿3,500–7,000+ / US$105–211. These are planning ranges, not guaranteed live rates. [UNCERTAIN]
From here, Pattaya Beach, Central Pattaya, Beach Road, Second Road, Terminal 21 Pattaya and much of the central dining scene are within reach on foot or by short songthaew ride. There is no BTS or MRT in Pattaya; use the Beach Road and Second Road songthaew loop, then continue to Bali Hai Pier for the island ferries. thaiadvice

North Pattaya, Wong Amat and Naklua
North Pattaya feels more like a resort strip than central Pattaya, particularly around Wong Amat Beach. The roads are calmer, the beachfront hotels have more space, and you are away from the late-night pull of Walking Street without being far from restaurants and shopping.
Choose this area for a family stay, a couple’s trip, or a hotel-led holiday where pool time matters as much as going out. It also suits travellers who want better beach surroundings than central Pattaya without committing to Jomtien.
Expect mid-range rooms around ฿2,500–6,000 / US$75–181. Amari Pattaya often falls around ฿3,500–7,000+ / US$105–211, while Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya commonly sits higher, around ฿5,000–10,000+ / US$151–301. Both are rate-sensitive resorts, so use those numbers as a booking target rather than a promise. [UNCERTAIN]
Wong Amat Beach, Terminal 21 Pattaya and north-side dining are nearby. The Sanctuary of Truth is a short ride away rather than a practical walk from most hotels. There is no rail station; North Pattaya Road connects easily to central Pattaya by songthaew, taxi or Bolt. thaiadvice

Pratumnak Hill
Pratumnak is the quiet headland between central Pattaya and Jomtien. It is greener, lower-rise and more residential, with sea-view resorts, small cafés, Cozy Beach and access to the Big Buddha area.
It suits couples, longer-stay visitors and digital nomads who want a calmer base but still want central Pattaya within a short ride. You will spend more on rides here than in Central Pattaya because local songthaew coverage is less straightforward.
Mid-range rooms usually run ฿1,800–4,500 / US$54–135, although many prominent properties are above that. InterContinental Pattaya Resort often prices around ฿4,500–9,000+ / US$135–271; The Monttra Pattaya is typically in the ฿4,000–8,000+ / US$120–241 range. [UNCERTAIN]
Cozy Beach, the Khao Phra Bat viewpoint, Wat Phra Yai and the Big Buddha are the main nearby landmarks. There is no BTS, MRT or rail stop. Bolt and taxis are the simplest option, particularly after dark.

Jomtien
Jomtien runs south from Pattaya’s core along a longer beach road with more breathing room. It is less central, but it has a local-residential rhythm, beach restaurants, cafés and generally better value for longer stays.
Stay here if you want morning walks by the water, room to work from a hotel or condo, and less nightlife outside your door. Families often find it easier than Central Pattaya, while budget-conscious beach travellers can get more space for the money.
A typical mid-range room costs ฿1,200–3,500 / US$36–105. D Varee Jomtien Beach commonly appears around ฿1,500–3,500 / US$45–105, while Marine Beach Hotel Pattaya is often around ฿2,000–4,500 / US$60–135. [UNCERTAIN]
Jomtien Beach, beach-road food stalls, casual restaurants and watersports are within walking distance. Pattaya has no urban rail network, so use beach-road songthaews and ride-hailing to reach Central Pattaya; allow extra time during rain or evening traffic. thaiadvice

Things to do
Half-day
Sanctuary of Truth is the Pattaya attraction worth setting aside real time for. The huge hand-carved teak structure in Naklua is still evolving, and the detail is better appreciated slowly rather than as a quick photo stop. Day entry is ฿500 / about US$15.05; the evening session is ฿700 / about US$21.07. Go early to avoid the heat or choose the late session for softer light. book the Sanctuary of Truth on Klook outthailand
Big Buddha Hill and Pattaya viewpoint make an easy Pratumnak half-day. Walk around Wat Phra Yai, take in the hilltop views, then head down toward Cozy Beach or central Pattaya. Access is generally free, though you should budget for a taxi or Bolt. [UNCERTAIN] Go early or near sunset, cover your shoulders and knees, and leave your shoes outside where required.
Full-day
Koh Larn is the straightforward island escape from Pattaya. Take the ferry from Bali Hai Pier, settle into a beach, then return before the late-afternoon rush or bad weather. Public-ferry pricing and activity rates should be checked at the pier before publishing because the research does not confirm a current fare. [UNCERTAIN] Leave before 09:00 and aim for a weekday if you can. book the Koh Larn day trip on Klook
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is a full day of landscaped grounds, themed gardens and ticket tiers that may include cultural and animal shows. Garden entry is around ฿500 / US$15.05; a garden-and-show ticket is around ฿800 / US$24.08; online packages may be around ฿950 / US$28.60 compared with walk-in packages approaching ฿1,500 / US$45.15. Booking online is worth it for the price difference. book the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden on Klook pattaya-insider

Ramayana Water Park is a strong family day outside the city centre. The cited online tourist ticket is ฿1,099 / US$33.08, compared with ฿1,199 / US$36.09 walk-in for visitors at least 106 cm tall. Buy online, arrive near opening and avoid weekend crowds if you want less time in queues. book the Ramayana Water Park on Klook pattaya-insider
Pattaya Beach, Beach Road and central city costs as little or as much as you let it. Beach access is free; your spend comes from food, loungers, drinks and watersports. Start by the sea in the morning, step into Central Pattaya during the hottest hours, then return to Beach Road in the late afternoon. thaiholidayguide
Multi-day excursions
A Bangkok add-on makes more sense as one or two nights than a rushed day trip. The BKK–Pattaya bus costs around ฿143 / US$4.30, while a taxi is roughly ฿1,400–1,700 / US$42–51, including the cited airport and toll costs. Use it to link beach time with Bangkok’s food, river districts and museums. book the Bangkok experience on Klook thaiadvice
Pattaya International Fireworks Festival weekend is best treated as a two-night stay, not an evening stop. The 2026 event runs 27–28 November and the beach viewing is free, but the waterfront gets crowded and hotel prices rise. Reserve a room early, eat before the displays begin, and arrive well ahead of showtime if you want a clear beach position. pattayaland thaiholidayguide
Getting around
From Suvarnabhumi Airport, the Roong Reuang airport bus is the value option: ฿143 / about US$4.30 from Gate 8 on Level 1, with a journey of roughly 1.5–2 hours. An official taxi costs around ฿1,400–1,700 / US$42–51 and makes more sense if you arrive late, have children, or are carrying beach luggage and camera equipment. thaiadvice
For a fixed arrival plan, book Welcome Pickups ahead. It removes the airport negotiation step and gives you a direct hotel transfer rather than a bus stop and onward ride.
Inside Pattaya, songthaews are the local workhorse. On major Beach Road and Second Road routes, expect ฿10–20 / US$0.30–0.60 per person. Board one already travelling in the direction you need, press the buzzer when you want to get off, then pay the driver. If you tell the driver where to go before boarding, you may be negotiating a private hire instead. thaiadvice
Bolt helps reduce price disputes for rides outside the songthaew loop, though the fare changes with distance and demand. Confirm the vehicle plate before entering. Grab an Airalo eSIM before you land, because reliable data makes hotel pins, ride-hailing and rainy-day plan changes much easier.
Avoid casual scooter rental if you are not experienced and correctly licensed. Pattaya traffic, wet roads and late-night riding are a more serious risk than most visitors expect. destinationthailand
Local tips + scams
Respect lands quickly in Thailand. At temples and private homes, remove your shoes when expected and dress conservatively at religious sites. Cover your shoulders and knees before entering. Do not point your feet at people, Buddha images or temple objects, and never touch someone’s head.
Your tone matters too. Do not shout at a driver, cashier or restaurant worker when something goes wrong. Stay calm, state the problem clearly, and decline an offer with “mai ao khrap” if you are male or “mai ao kha” if you are female: it means “no thank you” and will take you further than an argument.
The jet-ski damage scam is the one to take seriously on Pattaya Beach. Some operators have been reported to claim that pre-existing marks are new damage and demand payment. The safest option is to skip informal beach rentals; if you do rent, record a continuous video of the hull and panels first, do not hand over your passport, and call Tourist Police if pressured. pattayaexcursions
Be cautious with parked taxis and transport touts offering a “special price.” Use the official airport queue, Bolt, or agree the fare in advance when a meter is not being used. pattayaexcursions
Also avoid following street touts into bars or venues. Bar-bill padding and disputed checks are still reported: keep track of what you order, ask for an itemised bill, and settle questions before paying. pattayaexcursions
Save Tourist Police 1155, general emergency 191, and ambulance 1669 in your phone. pattayaexcursions
One local habit worth learning: use the Beach Road–Second Road songthaew loop as a moving connection, not a door-to-door taxi. Ride the vehicle’s existing route for the normal ฿10–20 fare; directing the driver converts it into a negotiated charter. thaiadvice
FAQ
Is Pattaya safe for solo female travellers?
Yes, with normal city and nightlife awareness. Use reviewed hotels, book rides through apps after dark, keep control of drinks, and avoid isolated beach areas late at night. The larger practical risks are road traffic, transport disputes and nightlife scams rather than violent crime against tourists. pattayaexcursions
How many days do I need?
Plan three to four nights for a first visit. That gives you time for a beach-and-city day, a Koh Larn ferry day, one cultural or family attraction, and enough room for rain or arrival delays. Add a night if you are coming for the November fireworks weekend. [UNCERTAIN]
Is Pattaya expensive?
It can be, but it does not need to be. Backpacker-level spending can sit around ฿1,200–2,500 / US$36–75 daily; mid-range travel is around ฿3,500–6,000 / US$105–181; luxury stays begin around ฿8,000 / US$241 per day. These are planning ranges. [UNCERTAIN]
What is the best area for first-timers?
Central Pattaya near Beach Road or Second Road is the easiest first base. You can walk to the beach, malls, food and much of the city’s activity, then use the songthaew loop and reach Bali Hai Pier without arranging every ride. It is convenient, not quiet. thaiadvice
Do I need cash in Pattaya?
Bring both cash and cards. Hotels, malls and larger restaurants generally take cards, while songthaews, markets, street food and small vendors often work best with Thai baht. When an ATM offers conversion to your home currency, decline it and choose Thai baht to avoid dynamic currency conversion. destinationthailand
Is Koh Larn worth doing from Pattaya?
Yes, if you leave early and keep expectations realistic. It is the simplest way to swap central Pattaya’s urban beach for clearer water and a proper island day. Go on a weekday where possible, check sea conditions in wet months, and keep your return timing flexible if storms build. [UNCERTAIN]
